safety mode issue

I purchased my 150 etec less than 1 year ago. Since that time I have had 3 instances when the motor went into safty mode and i got stranded along way from the dock. Off course i can idle in however this took hours. No indicators were noted such as heat or oil lights. I simply started the motor and attempted to throttle up and return to port. So far the first 2 trips back to the dealer redered me a diognosis of the Throttle position senor may have caused such and issue. last week it happened for the 3rd time. No diognosis yet. Is this a random occurance or is this a common issue with ETEC motors. I love my boat and motor but im to the point of not being able to trust it to get me and my family home.

The great thing about this website is that you do not have to repeat a question in different forums. We read them all.  Please refer to your other inquiry to which we have already replied. Thank you.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. If you elect to do it yourself, be sure to use caution, common sense, and to observe all safety procedures in the vicinity of gasoline, moving engine parts, high temperature components, heavy items, and electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.
