i have a 135 HO 2015 ob motor is set up for evinr. xd 100 oil [full synth] is there another oil that i can use in
replacment that will not harm motor
If your motor is programmed for the XD-100 setting, then only XD-100 can be used in it. Please read your operator's guide. Engine damage may result if other oils are used at this setting. Engine warranty could be voided should there be lubrication related problems.
To use other approved oils - TC-W3 certified with logo on the container - have your dealer reset the programming from XD-100 to TC-W3. That way you can use any NMMA TC-W3 outboard oil.
It is my understanding that there are three oil level settings for the E-TEC. Can you confirm the final gas to oil ratios?
Is this correct?
Is there any advantage to run the TC-W3 setting and actually use XD-50 or XD-100 oils? Or run the XD-50 setting and actually use XD-100?
I will be taking delivery of a new E50DSL any day now and want to get it set up right.
There are only 2 oil programming settings on an Evinrude E-TEC.
a.) From the factory the engines come programmed for the TC-W3 setting which allows the owner the choice of using any TC-W3 certified outboard oil plus any of the Evinrude outboard oils.
b.) Some E-TEC models have an optional reduced oil setting ( XD-100 ) that may be programmed by the dealer at the customer's request but it is required that the Evinrude XD-100 oil be the only lubricant allowed. If any other oil is used at the XD-100 programmed setting, engine damage may result and warranty could be voided.
The reduced oil setting is not recommended for engines used commercially, run at high speeds extensively, or for any heavy duty use.
The very best protection you can give to your Evinrude E-TEC is the use of XD-100 oil at the TC-W3 setting. A 50 HP uses so little oil that you would probably never notice the difference in oil consumption.
All this is published in the operator's guide. Be sure to read and understand the guide before using your new motor.
I forgot to include this in my previous post to you.
Here is a link to an Evinrude E-TEC 50 HP operators guide that you can download for free. It gives you something to read and study before your engine arrives.
