G 1 150 HP HO or G2 150 HP

208 1998 Grady White Evinrude dealer removed Yamaha 175 HP weight 418 ,installed G1 150 HP HO with new hydraulic steering and I command gauges shrink wrapped for winter never water tested . Yesterday same dealer advertised G2 150 HP for the same price I paid . Do I stay with G1 or pay to switch to G2, I like the G1 same weight as the Yamaha ,I fish locally a few miles per trip . Dealer was to water test the G 1 this week . Not concerned about resale value I'm to old ! Its never easy !

The Evinrude E-TEC G2 will give a bit better fuel economy and improved acceleration and performance. The downside is it requires different controls and wiring and perhaps new gauges or display. There are adapter kits available, talk to your dealer.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.

Yes, it is a whole different engine design with extra features not found on the earlier Evinrude E-TEC 150 HO
