Hello,

Year designations have not been used by outboard motor manufacturers since before or at 2012.

What is your full engine model number as printed on the serial number sticker?

No matter which type of 200 HO that you have, the top rpm is too low.  It may be the setup, the engine, overpropped, or an adjustment. First you need a knowledgeable technician to check over the engine mounting height, cable adjustments if applicable, and to make sure the engine is delivering full power. If everything checks out OK, you can experiment with propellers. Your engine need to deliver a top rpm in the optimal range determined by Evinrude for best all around performance and economy. The optimal range is a narrower rpm band that the whole operational range.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. If you elect to do it yourself, be sure to use caution, common sense, and to observe all safety procedures in the vicinity of gasoline, moving engine parts, high temperature components, heavy items, and electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.
