Add a aux fuel tank to my I-command backbone.

My boat was repowered with twin 250's in 2006. At that time only my primary fuel tank was connected to the backbone. I am now going to add an aux tank. My research tells me I need to order a tee and fuel level converter instance 1. My question is, the parts reference red and blue. My backbone is all black, what is the difference in the red and blue? and what do I need for this older backbone.

The red and blue connectors are of different configurations. Your dealer can get the adapters so one color can be used with the other color .

Re: Add a aux fuel tank to my I-command backbone.

Thanks for the reply Travis

My local dealer is located on a small lake and has not done much with the i-command systems. I understand that obviously there is a diffence between the two colors beening different systems, but my install was done when I-command first came out (by a dealer that is 500 miles away), so I have neither color. I know what parts I need I just don't know which color will work with my older backbone (Black). Can anyone here help me?

Thanks Todd

Re: Add a aux fuel tank to my I-command backbone.

The different colors are only different shaped and style connectors, the system is still the same and all the parts work together. You only need adapters to fit a newer blue-connector device to a red or a black connector on the network.

If your dealer has questions about I-Command or its installation or parts needed, he can call his dealer support hotline to get the answers quickly for you.

From the Evinrude website you can download the I-Command Digital Network Guide for yourself by clicking on Support, Operators Guides, follow the promps to Evinrude, Accessories, then Installation Guides.

Re: Add a aux fuel tank to my I-command backbone.

Thanks agin Travis

I have done quite a bit of research, and read the installation manual, so I feel comfortable with the parts and install. I just could not find anything that addressed the color differences. And as for my dealer, I like them but this issue is just not as urgent  to them as it is to me. I think I understand your last post, and don't want to come off as stupid... if I understand you, I should be able to insert a red tee into my existing black backbone without any adapters. If that is the case I am good to go...

Thanks Todd
