Had a busy few days at Westport this past week. Filmed a TV show with Justin Wolff for Angler West TV www.anglerwesttv.com . We caught 6 kings several over 20 pounds during the show which will air in an upcoming episode. Justin brought two guest lady anglers who had never fished salmon before. Had Simrad pro-staffer Kevin Lanier onboard too helping out for the shoot. Great time was had by all.
The next day took off offshore with Jerry, Roger and Tony to chase albacore tuna. Fishing was off the charts, it was like a huge tuna play ground SW of the harbor about 40 miles. The tuna were boiling all over the place, even had a commercial boat pull up and pole fish onboard their boat by us. Almost all our 30 tuna came on live bait.
Spent the next couple of days chasing kings and coho in the 300ft water west of the harbor and did quite well.
Most of the kings in the deep water came on a Pro-Troll flasher with a Gold Star green hoochie with Pro-Cure Shrimp gel scent packed in them. These big kings were loaded with shrimp. You needed to zoom the Lowrance unit in on the bottom 30ft of water and run your gear near the shrimp balls to score fish. Most of the time we were running the Scotty downriggers at 225-250 ft on the wire. Also did well on top with a Fish Flash behind a diver pulling a Kingfisher Spoon for coho.
