2000 Evinrude 150 will not crank when hot from the Sun?

I have a 2000 Evinrude model E150FPXSS That will start when weather is cool but will simply click and not turnover when sitting in the Florida Sun.  When the sun goes down the motor will turn over and start easily.  I have replaced everything from ignition switch to thermostats and water pumps so running the motor runs super.

Any idea what would cause the motor to overheat simply sitting and how can I resolve?

If you hear the solenoid click, then the keyswitch circuit is operational. A digital volt meter is needed to check for battery voltage at the posts and at each connection while someone holds the key to START.

Guess-wise would be the solenoid unless there is an intermittent problem inside the starter motor.

If you are not familiar with a voltage drop test procedure, have your dealer check it over.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.
