E-tech 50 HP won’t start

Hi, my 2008 50 HP has run like a top for 10 years, but this spring, at first wouldn’t start, then did for a day, ran well then stalled and wouldn’t start again. I was unable to pump fuel into the filter via the primer bulb. It’s turner over, but won’t start.

The first thing to do is find out if there is any fuel pressure from the high pressure pump and if there is ignition and if fuel travels easily from the tank to the motor.  A no start condition can be any number of things and  you dealer is the best place to have it checked over if you do not have a factory service manual and familiar with how an E-TEC operates.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.
