Evinrude 300g2 no start

I have a 2017 Evinrude 300 on a manitou pontoon. It’s under warranty of course but it takes better part of a day to take it out of the water and transport it there. The engine doesn’t crank over on the first try. It doesn’t do anything. I have to bump the start position several times before it cranks. If I turn the key all the way off I have to start the process over. I have a new cranking battery and have added a 2nd house battery. I also keep a battery tender on it when on the hoist. It has plenty of juice, no voltage drops etc.. it’s erratic too, sometimes it’s fine. Any thoughts?

Sounds like ignition switch. If you are mechanically able, the dealer would probably supply one for you to replace.

Ask your dealer to check service bulletin 2018-17(S) to see if it applies to your motor.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.
