Wondering if anyone has come across any good articles (just for my understanding) on the reasons / transition of OMC to BRP? Did BRP - Bombardier, purchase Evinrude/Johnson when they were claiming bankruptcy, etc? Thanks.
The then owners, George Soros and his Greenway group declared OMC bankrupt in December of 2000. Bombardier Corp. won the Federal Bankruptcy auction in 2001 for the name, intellectual properties, and certain other Johnson and Evinrude items - not everything. A few years later Bombardier Recreation Products (BRP) was formed by the Bombardier family and other investors who purchased Johnson and Evinrude along with other products from Bombardier Corp.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.
