G2 Gear Oil Change

I'd it important to change gear oil yearly?

How about fuel filter? Is changing the fuel filter, simply as unscrewing and screwing the new one back on? Is their any bleeding of the air required?

Re: G2 Gear Oil Change

According to the Evinrude G2 Operator's Guide, the gear oil change interval is 5 years/500 hours under normal recreational conditions. If you feel better changing it more often, that is not a problem just be sure to use the recommended Evinrude HPF-Pro lubricant.

The fuel filter on the motor is the same spin-on design that Evinrude has used since 1999. There is no bleeding required, just apply a bit of oil on the rubber seal ring and hand tighten only.

Everything should be explained in the operator's guide. If you do not have one, download a copy at  http://www.operatorsguides.brp.com/  , click on the pull down menu and select EVINRUDE.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.
