115 etec stalling/ rough idle

Hi,
I own a 07 115 evinrude etec that has been acting up lately. It has been starting rough and stalling a lot at idle and when I put it into gear. I also get a lot of hesitation and studdering when I increase throttle. At Mid range and WOT it runs flawlessly. I first suspected fuel related and changed lines and filters. Bulb doesn't lose firmness. Today I found that when the cover is off it idles like a dream and the hesitation is gone. Put the cover back on and within a couple minutes it starts to run rough and then stalls. Now I'm thinking some type of air restriction but why is there no issue at WOT? The boat was recently serviced by tec and everything is up to date and not throwing codes. I see no blockage with the cover. Does motor have an air filter. Any ideas what maybe going on. I'm hoping its something easy because I don't want to pull it out of water.

Thanks

It is also possible that there is a gasket leak allowing exhaust gas to buildup under the hood causing the poor running. See your dealer for a full diagnosis and to be sure that the latest software version is installed in your motor. A check of the exhaust tuning valve operation is recommended, too.

Re: 115 etec stalling/ rough idle

As a follow up to my original post, I brought my boat to a tech. He found that the exhaust back pressure valve was completely blocked. It was replaced and tested on their ramp with no issues. I took boat out and it ran great-no idling issues or stalling with cover on. Then about a hour or so later it starting to run rough again. By end of day it was stalling a lot at low idle and docking speed with lots of hesitation if I apply more throttle until I get the RPM's up. Once i Took hood off it runs great. Any thoughts

Either a problem with the motor cover air flow, positioning,  or there is an exhaust leak somewhere.

Re: 115 etec stalling/ rough idle

We have an 07 115 etec with the exact same issue. We replaced all the fuel lines, starter, fuel pump, etc. We even bought the diagnostic kit and everything checked out, including injectors.

Did you ever figure out your issue?
