Etec 200 hp 2006 model starting problem

Hi would appreciate any guidance on how to test for a solution to the following problem.

When cold starting she starts first go as I have serviced the engine by a quailified mechanic once a year. When you start on cold it starts immediately. Once you have run for a hour or so and switch the engine off it will not start immeiately. The engine does not crank . You have to turn the key a number of times before it will crank and then starts with no problem. I have replaced the ignition and key from Hunts marine ( genuine parts) but it is still doing it . What else could be the problem. The engine has about 6oo hours on it. Please help

Re: Etec 200 hp 2006 model starting problem

When you turn the key on to try to start it when warm, do the gauges come on and perform the self-test with the sequential warning lights? After it will not start and you turn the key on again, do the gauges and self-test still work correctly?

What is the complete model number on your motor?

The gauges perform the self test every time, cold and when warmed up, and seems to work fine.

If you plan on troubleshooting this problem yourself, please obtain a factory service manual for reference and for step by step procedures.

You key switch does not activate the starter solenoid like a car does. The ignition switch S terminal signals the EMM to ground the starter solenoid circuit to crank over the motor. Do not forget to test the neutral safety switch inside the control box.

We are happy that you found the faulty part and were able to get back on the water relatively inexpensively.
