Re: Name plate missing where else is engine serial number on the 152 stroke Evinrude possibly 1998

Hello Mr Bluewater Bill. I'm new to site and would really appreciate some help. I recently replaced my 1993 Johnson 200 ocean runner powerhead after a locator pin failure on cyl #4. I'm trying to find some info (200hp or 225hp) on the new one but all I have is the serial number  -  G4291092

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Your efforts to help inform other members is incredible and if you ever find yourself in Galveston TX let me know I'd be happy to buy you a drink...

Thanks in advance!

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.

It will take at least several business days at least to research that number. Please be patient

Hi Bill / community

Really hoping you can help me.

I have purchased a boat with missing ID tags and have been searching everywhere to determine the model/year number to assist with buying parts.

Number on Freeze Plug is A0308958. I have attached photos of motor to assist.

Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance, Jason

Re: Name plate missing where else is engine serial number on the 152 stroke Evinrude possibly 1998

The letter A in the serial number means that it was Australian produced and we cannot help with those. The engine cover looks repainted and cannot go by that. Looking at the engine, particularly the carbs with only 4 screws fastening the top cover means that the motor could be a late production 1983 through an early production 1988. Luckily for you the V4 90 had very few changes in its lifetime and most parts interchange over the years.
