Rx4 vs Rebel

[ Edited ]

Screenshot_20190516-202703_Adobe Acrobat.jpgHi,

Just bought the same boat, same engine. With those numbers in the report : if I want to put an RX4 prop, should I go with the 16 or 18 pitch ?

Re: Rx4 vs Rebel

Viper should have more top end speed compared to a 4 blade Rebel or RX4. What's your max RPM with the 17p viper? Does the dealer have a swap option?

Re: Rx4 vs Rebel

According to the report, 5875 rpm wot with the rebel prop with very light load. For me the top speed is not my primary goal. Fishing with the family, tubing is the purpose. 3, 4 persons in the boat, gears etc. The boat will be more heavier compare to the evinrude performance report. Didn't try the viper yet in case I wanna trade it to another dealer.

Re: Rx4 vs Rebel

They did the test with 6 gallons of gas. The boat tank is 36 gallons + livewell, 4 battery.....

Re: Rx4 vs Rebel

For tubing and carrying more passengers and gear, the Rebel or possibly an  RX-4 would be a better choice than a Viper.  Being propped in the 5800 rpm range allows for good performance with more weight aboard or pulling skiers or tubes as the motor can remain in the optimal rpm range even if it is loaded down by a few hundred rpm.

30 more gallons of fuel is about 180#, equivalent to an average adult male passenger. With the flat torque curve of the Evinrude G2, the motor slows down very little as weight is added to the boat.

Re: Rx4 vs Rebel

Start with an 18" pitch. Don't forget you may have to try more than one size as every hull and prop combo may yield differing results. Make sure you motor is not mounted too low - you should be able to see the  anti-ventilation plate on top of or just above the water when running at cruise or above.

Ok. They did the test with the 3 blades rebel. When switching for a 4 blades your not suppose to go smaller on pitch.?  That rule doesn't apply for G2 ?
