Tracking hours

I have a 2017 G1 150 E-tec HO. What is the best way to track engine hours? The level of gauges I have do not show hours.

Install the ICON Pro gauges along with the NMEA2000 boat network. See your dealer for details, installation, and pricing.

A quicker and less expensive way is to install and wire up a traditional hour meter but remember that it records the total KEY-ON time, not just the engine running time.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.

Re: Tracking hours

I did exactlly what Bill said. I ordered a Faria "Digital" Hour Meter for Evinrude and installed it on my dash myself, around $35.00. Make sure you purchase the Digital, The other model craps out after a couple of months. I did attach it to my battery to bring it up to what I thought was the approxomate hours I had on the motor. I had my 3 years service done last fall and I was off by 10 hours according to the report from the computer.
