How do you choose which species to go after?

If I pull out of my driveway with my Alumacraft/Evinrude rig in tow, in the Brainerd Lake Area, I have what seems like an infinite number of options when it comes to which lake and which species to go after that day. Lots of factors come in to play when actually making the decision. 

What do you think about when you head out to the water? How do you decide what to go after?
