15 HP Evinrudes - as a kicker...

Can someone give me some info on the 15 hp Evinrudes please?  I understood that some or all were 4 strokes up until a while back and now they are two strokes?  Or do I have that all F'd up?

Anyway, as weird as it may seem, I am not interested in a 4 stroke kicker...  Definitely a Evinrude two stroke fan at this time.

Thanks gang.

Re: 15 HP Evinrudes - as a kicker...

There have been various 2-strokes and 4-strokes in the 15 HP range in the last few decades. Currently Evinrude offers a 4-stroke portable version in several model configurations and an E-TEC 15HO for multi-species boats and offshore use.

In the past, Evinrude had designed and built its own 4-stroke 15 HP up through the 2001 model year. Johnson also used certain Suzuki built 4-stroke 15 hp motors until  2007 as well as the Johnson

2-stroke 15 hp that first came out in 1974 under both Evinrude and Johnson banners.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.

At this time the Evinrude E-TEC 15 HO is the only 2-stroke 15 hp motor available in the US and Canada

Re: 15 HP Evinrudes - as a kicker...

The E-TEC 15HO 2-stroke engine has it's own on board oil tank so it runs on regular gasoline, not a pre-mix so no need for a separate fuel tank.
