2008 40 HP E-TEC

I bought a 2008 evinrude E-TEC engine 4 years ago with less than 10 hrs on it and have had nothing but problems every year since. This year it is the emm or main computer I am told, with less than 30 hrs on it.The parts department sent an emm programmed for a 90 hp, they are saying it can be reprogrammed for a 40 hp. The repair shop says they are waiting for a link from Evirude to download to make this change, you would think this would be almost instant, but have been waiting 2 days to get it. Very seriously thinking about scrapping this motor for another brand, love the boat its on but i am very disappointed in thre engine, especially with no more hrs than it has on it. Model # E40DPLSCB; Serial # 05231999. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

We are sorry to hear about your experiences with an Evinrude outboard. Please have your serial number ready and click on   http://www.brp.com/en/forms/contact-us.html  and explain your situation. It may be advantageous to first have a factual conversation with your dealer's owner or service manager.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.
