2019 Evinrude Etec E115DGLAFL Warm engine start Problem

[ Edited ]

Bought this Etec brand new with a 10 year warranty, at the end of 2018 it now has around 200 hours on it. The engine starts up cold very nice but once i shut the motor off drifting for halibut and try to start it back up, its hard to start. Cranking for a good 6 seconds and eventually it will start. Once its running it runs fantastic hope somone can help me with my problem

A few thoughts from an Evinrude dealer tech. There may be a software update available to help in starting, your dealer would have to check that.
The spark plugs are usually good for over 300 hours but if your engine has a lot of low rpm running hours new spark plugs may fix the cranking problem.
The engine needs to see a stable minimum cranking rpm before it will "fire the plugs". I think it's 350 rpm minimum. If you are drift fishing and running electronic on your starting battery then your battery may be down just enough to keep the engine from starting instantly.

Just a quick question:

Are you advancing the throttle any to start the motor like we did in the past with carbureted outboards? Be sure  that the throttle is in neutral at dead idle.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.

Most of the time E-TEC hard starting is caused by plugs, clogged exhaust pressure tube, or slow cranking.
