New owner of a 2012 25hp etec with tilt & trim. I duck hunt and fish in very shallow water and need advice on ability of motor as is versus addition of something like a CMC Breakaway plate. As it's currently mounted I don't see that the tilt/trim has the ability to "pop up" upon hitting a stump or log. I'm accustomed to outboards that will "pop up" but have no tilt/trim. Will I totally destroy the hydraulics if I hit something at high speed? Well, fast enough so that motor gives way but not so fast that I destroy the lower unit (which I have done). Somewhere in between...
Suggestions and recommendations please!
We cannot comment on accessory items not approved for Evinrude outboards. Keep in mind that the hydraulics have release valves built in to allow the motor to kick up on impact, but keep in mind that at high speed, there will be some type of damage no matter what due to the force of impact and inertia. That applies to any outboard motor make or model.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.
The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.
Thanks for the quick reply! If (when) I hit something and the hydraulics release will I need to physically do anything to re-position them or does that happen automatically?
