300 e Tec trim and tilt chatter

[ Edited ]

Since I bought  both my E Tecs 300s they chatter going down and the trim and tilt  unit makes a lot of noise .It will go away a little for a while and then come back just as bad as before. The fluid is ok as well and  I have not hit anything.Everything is greased. Does anyone know a fix for this. Thanks for any help AJ

Re: 300 e Tec trim and tilt chatter

Normally tightening the tilt tube  nut one flat at a time -  1/6th turn - will stop the chattering. Be sure to grease the fittings first and smear a bit of grease on the 3 tilt and trim rods

I had to turn the nut 4 flat of 6.It almost stoped it all the way.It is very very very slight.I did not want crank down on it.It is just nice and snug. Thanks for the help.If I grease the tirm and tilt tubes wit the grease effect the wippers on the rams when it hardens up?

Re: 300 e Tec trim and tilt chatter

Evinrude Triple Guard grease will not harden up and it helps protect the wipers and seals from salt buildup if you run in seawater
