96 Evinrude 150hp wiring harness.

Hey guys, I just purchased a Javalin boat to put my motor on. All the wires match up accept one pair. It’s a two wire square plug that clips in on the right side behind the trim plugs. The wires that are in the harness the boat came with are just two wires with little connectors and I want to wire this up correctly but I can’t find anything online that tells me what this is for. I would greatly appreciate anyone’s help.

What color are the wires on the harness side and the boat side?

Are the wires tan and black?

Re: 96 Evinrude 150hp wiring harness.

One wire is ran with a black stripe and the other is solid black. But the wiring harness coming from the new boat has just two black wires

Re: 96 Evinrude 150hp wiring harness.

Those are for the LOW OIL warning light and attach to the boat mounted oil tank if the OMS (oil metering system) erroniously called VRO, is used.

Re: 96 Evinrude 150hp wiring harness.

If the boat's oil tank has both black wires on it, it cannot be used with a 1996 motor, only older motors.
