How do I "manually" Winterize my 90 Etec Motor?

Just bought a pontoon boat with the 90 hp Etec motor.I believe it is from 2006. I was concerned about winterizing the motor but then saw the videos on how to auto winterize your motor. However, my boat and throttle lever and assembly is not equiped with a fast idle button/lever. The throttle is pretty basic. Foward, Neutral and Reverse. The motor will not start unless it is in neutral so therefore it cannot complete the autofog process. Is there a way I can do this on the motor itself? The boat is probably going to sit for 5-6 months so I want to be sure I keep the motor in good working order. Any help is appreciated!!!

Which model control box do you have? If you are unsure, please post photos of it.

***************

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.

You may have a binacle (top mounted) control on which the throttle can be advanced in neutral either by pushing a rubber center cap on the control lever or pulling out on the control lever.
