How many hours to install new 30hp

Just had a new 30hp and they clocked it at 12 hours shop time to install.

This is an open boat with one hole that had to be cut for a tack.  Side mount controls screwed to existing bracket. It did need new mounting holes through wood transom.

I was also told by the dealer that I had to buy a new interstate battery from them or warentee would  be void.  Now that I have paperwork on the motor, I don't see that anywere.  (I had a one year old 1000cc agm battery already for the boat.)

Over $2100 for the rigging charges on top of the motor that was already paid for earlier.  Does this seem high, or just buyer's remorse?

Thanks.

Re: How many hours to install new 30hp

Rigging is between you and your dealer as well as the installer. We are not onsite, or know what is involved or if any unrigging had to be done.  Not only that but dealers are independent businessmen and not part of BRP Evinrude.  We would suggest that you arrange a non-emotional discussion with the dealer owner, management, and service manager to see if you and they can come to some type of agreement.

***************

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.

Re: How many hours to install new 30hp

What I'm looking for Bill is the experience other's have had with their install.  If this is in the ballpark, then so be it.

There was no unrigging and the teleflex steering was already routed to the motor.  There were no major challenges that I'm aware of or were mentioned.  So what to expect for a "by the book" install is what I'm asking about.

Re: How many hours to install new 30hp

I had a 50 hp installed June 2014 and it was $212.00 and 2.5 hours. 12 hours seems pretty excessive and 2100 seems way out of line

Thanks.  This is really the feedback that I was soliciting.  I would love to hear from others before I go to the dealer.

Re: How many hours to install new 30hp

Can you post a picture or a link to a picture of your boat?  I'd like to see what the setup looks like.

12 hours does seem high.  I work for a dealership in Alaska and we charge 895.00 to rig engines (remote control) from 30 hp up to 300 hp.  There are circumstances in which time will be added if transom repairs, welding or custom fabricating are needed.  You mention repairs on the transom, what was done?  Fiberglass work?  Welding?

Wooden boat. Plugged holes from previous outboard with dowel. No repairs. They did cut a hole for tach in consul.

I'll try to post a pic later this afternoon.
Thanks for the reply.

Tach and hole are new.  Side mount controls mounted to existing bracket. Wood transom drilled for new pattern and old holes plugged.  No other modifications to the boat.

Thanks again for the feedback.

That's a sharp looking rig!  Very nice.  I still think you were over charged for the rigging.  Keep in mind that I'm just a keyboard quarterback!

Re: How many hours to install new 30hp

Thanks for the compliment on the boat.  She is a Jericho Bay Skiff built with my daughter and we are very proud of her.

Runs like Jack the Bear with the new etec 30.  Love the new motor, just wish I had a better idea about what should be expected so I can ask for a "sit down" with the marina and try to talk reasonably.
