I recently had a bout with E10 phase separation. The ethanol mix got through my boat side fuel / water separator and into the injection system. All is well now - but my question is this:
Is it possible to buy all of the bits on the '09 model (ie. PN 5007013, 0502906, etc) and hook it to the '08 motor in place of the standard fuel filter? Is it possible to hook up the sensor to the EMM so it sets off the check engine light in the event of phase separation?
It's an easy fix if you catch it before it gets into the engine!
I like the fact that the '09's have the water sensor that sets the check engine light off.

See your dealer as Evinrude makes a filter kit #5007045 just for what you are concerned about. Your motor already has the wiring in the harness for the water sensor.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.
The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.
