Reverse question

I have a new e-tec 150 model # E150DSLAA. When I put it in reverse and back down as if on a fish the motor pops up as if  it is not latched down. What is it suppose to do?

Re: Reverse question

The motor should not pop up in normal reverse usage.

If yours pops up then goes back down when  you shift out of reverse, then there is air in the system or low on fluid. If it pops up and stays up until you hit the DOWN button, then there is a valve sticking somewhere. Either way take it to your dealer as soon as possible for service.

The factory recommends that a properly trained technician service your Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor. Should you elect to perform repairs yourself, use caution, common sense, and observe safety procedures in the vicinity of flammable liquids, around moving parts, near high-temperature components, and working with electrical or ignition systems.

The information offered here is only general in nature and should not be construed as complete factory approved procedures, techniques, or specifications. Always use the proper service manual for your motor, up-to-date service literature, the correct tools, and have an understanding of how to proceed with troubleshooting and repair methods. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with a procedure, a situation, or a technique, enlist the services of a factory trained technician.

Re: Reverse question

I had same problem with 2011 Etech and 2017 G2. Solved the problem by holding down button in shifter when reversing.
