power head failure 2010 etec 250ho

It is my understanding that the oil injection on these engines doesnt go through the injector but is pumped in through the cylinder wall and crank bearing and is then mixed my the crank and air flow.  Is this correct?  

If so then why would a powerhead fail because an injector fail?  It would seem that if the oiling was continueing that the only thing you would notice would be a reduction of horse power.
